Most Christians agree that a committed prayer time is the mark of a dedicated follower of Jesus but yet most Christians struggle to maintain a regular prayer life. Here are 5 simple reasons why we should pray and a mobile app that has helped me develop a stronger daily prayer habit.

Because Jesus modeled and taught prayer.

Mark 1:35 – It was very early in the morning and still dark. Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where he could be alone. There he prayed.

Luke 6:12 – On one of those days, Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray. He spent the night praying to God.

Because God is our Father.

Psalm 68:5 – A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

Romans 8:14 – Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

Because God cares.

Romans 5:6-8 – At just the right time Christ died for ungodly people. He died for us when we had no power of our own. It is unusual for anyone to die for a godly person. Maybe someone would be willing to die for a good person. But here is how God has shown his love for us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Psalm 103:13 – A father is tender and kind to his children. In the same way, the Lord is tender and kind to those who have respect for him.

Because God is powerful.

Psalm 104:1-4 – I will praise the Lord. Lord my God, you are very great. You are dressed in glory and majesty. The Lord wraps himself in light as if it were a robe. He spreads out the heavens like a tent. He builds his palace high in the heavens. He makes the clouds serve as his chariot. He rides on the wings of the wind. He makes the winds serve as his messengers. He makes flashes of lightning serve him.

Romans 8:27-28 – God, who looks into our hearts, knows the mind of the Spirit. And the Spirit prays for God’s people just as God wants him to pray. We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. He appointed them to be saved in keeping with his purpose.

Because God’s Word commands us to pray.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Never stop praying.

Romans 12:12 – When you hope, be joyful. When you suffer, be patient. When you pray, be faithful.

Philippians 4:6 – Don’t worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him.
